A new group has been formed to give local museums, art galleries and cultural centres a little more marketing clout.
Its called Sumac and involved 15 different groups to market the cultural heritage of Simcoe county.
The Orillia Museum of Art and History is one of the groups involved in Sumac and Curator and Director Linda Whiston says they will be involving all the schools in the district to visit local museums and art galleries.
She says all the museum and galleries will promote other members of the group to encourage local residents to visit their heritage and cultural sites.
The Orillia Museum of Art and History, the Leacock Museum, the Coldwater Canadiana Museum and the Simcoe County Museum to name a few.
Donna Goodwin is the marketing project manager for the new group and says over the next five years they want to develop a strategy to promote all 15 sites not just in Simcoe county, but in the GTA as well.
Goodwin says they will be having a meeting next week to formally organize the group and develop objectives and a marketing plan for the future.
Other members of Sumac include the Nancy Island historic site in Wasaga Beach, the Base Borden Museum, the OPP Museum in Orillia, Ste Marie among the Hurons and Discovery Harbour.
