While the Conservative Party of Canada has won a majority government, the NDP candidate for Simcoe North does not believe they will serve out their four year mandate.
Richard Bannigan – who came in second in Simcoe North – is expressing surprise at how his party did nationally and even locally coming in second to Conservative incumbant Bruce Stanton.
The NDP is enjoying greater national support than in the days of Ed Broadbent.
Bannigan says the NDP was able to reach a record number of voters this election by campaigning on the issues that matter most to Canadians.
Bannigan is excited that the NDP is now the official opposition – referring to the party as the “government in waiting.”
He adds that he does not expect the Conservatives to serve out a full term.
Bannigan expects another election after two years – rather than four.
