May 1st to the 7th is Emergency Preparedness Week in Orillia.
As disasters and emergencies can happen at anytime, the Orillia Fire Department is encouraging everyone to be prepared.
Should disaster strike, Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli says you should be prepared to do without electricity and running water for at least 72 hours.
Dominelli says there are survival kits available – some are provided by the Red Cross – to help mitigate the effects of these unfortunate circumstances.
If you would like to build your own survival kit – the Fire Department can provide you with a list of materials that should be included.
Dominelli also encourages local residents to “Take the Challenge” – by visiting www.ontario.ca/beprepared.
There you will find a short quiz designed to test the participants knowledge of what to do in the event of a disaster or emergency.
