A lot of people are still not buckling up.
That what the latest OPP seat belt campaign has discovered.
OPP Orillia headquarters Constable Peter Leon says over the past three weeks, more than one million vehicles were checked and a total of 56 hundred charges were laid against drivers who did not buckle up.
He says In addition more than 17 hundred passengers were also charged for now wearing their seat belt and 140 charges were laid against drivers for not having a properly installed child restraint system.
Leon says the most common excuse drivers had for not buckling up was they just forgot.
He says all it takes is two seconds to buckle up and that small gesture could save a persons life if they are involved in an accident.
Over and above the seatbelt campaign results, the OPPs statistics reveal that as of March (2011), lack of restraint was a causal factor in almost 900 motor vehicle collision injuries
