It’s time to bundle up and hit the water, the 30th annual Orillia Perch Festival is officially under way.
The 3 week fishing competition kicked off last night (Friday) at Tudhope Park.
Perch Festival Chairman Mark Goode says this year, being a big one, means more fish and more prizes to be won.
This year there are over 60 tagged perch, all but two are worth $500 each, the two remaining are worth $3,000 each.
Despite a wet and cool weekend, Goode hopes they’ll be many fishers on the water throughout the entire event.
The Orillia Perch Festival is the largest fishing derby in North America, which means a positive economic impact for the city of Orillia. Over the next 3 weeks Goode expects to see many boats on the water, full hotels, restaurants and hopefully busy downtown stores as well.
Keep an eye out for the Sunshine 89.1 Perch, tagged at $500!
You can register for the Perch Festival in person at Tudhope Park, or online at orillia.com.
The Perch Festival ends May 7.
