One Orillia cat lover is hoping that city council will continue a project to spay and neuter abandoned cats.
Barb Macleod of the Comfie Cat Shelter estimates there are more than 12 hundred semi wild cats living in several colonies in the city and says the TNR or trap, neuter and return program is needed to keep the population of the animals in check.
She says a pilot project conducted last year was very successful and hope the new council will approve the program once again this year.
She says 159 animals were brought in and fixed last year and 60 were returned back to the three colonies.
She says the TNR program is a good way to control the cat population.
Macleod says an ad hoc committee of Council is now taking a look at the results of the pilot project and will be going to council soon with a recommendation on whether the program should take place again.
