Efforts are under way to set up a transition house or shelter for homeless youth in Orillia.
The Director of the Orillia Youth Centre Kevin Gangloff says during some of their work last year, that was one of the needs identified for the community.
He says setting up a youth shelter or transitional house was one of the 34 recommendations contained in last years Affordable Housing Action Plan done by the city.
Gangloff says they are now in at the stage of putting together a committee to determine how they can move this recommendation forward and they hope to have some reports back to city council later this year.
He says youth homelessness is an invisible issue in Orillia and while there are no young people sleeping on the sidewalk like in Toronto, there is a lot of couch surfing or moving from one friends apartment to another.
