Students throughout the county will be celebrating Earth Hour by turning off the lights for one hour.
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is taking part in the global movement on climate change Friday by turning off all non-essential lighting for one hour.
This years official Earth Hour lands on Saturday, but SCDSB schools and offices will be participating Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Outside of schools you are all encouraged to celebrate Earth Hour this Saturday by turning off whatever power you can for one hour.
Kayla Kalalian, the Environmental Systems Coordinator for the SCDSB says the day demonstrates their commitment to environmental education not just by turning off the lights, but by turning on young minds.
Kalalian says you can participate anywhere by turning off power sources for one hour, which really does make a difference on a local and global level.
