Members of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation are calling for a forensic audit or RCMP probe amid shock at learning their community is facing a cash crunch.
Band members have said openly that they cannot understand how millions of dollars in casino revenues seem to have disappeared.
They say the reserve is in trouble and want to know what happened.
Two weeks ago, Chief Sharon Stinson Henry stunned a community forum when she said the band was feeling the effects of the global economic downturn.
Stinson Henry announced several austerity measures, including a buyout plan for band employees.
However, the chief says the band is in “great” shape and the cuts are simply a prudent measure aimed at balancing the books.
