Protests today at Lakehead University over proposed tuition hikes.
The student union says next year’s increase represents the fourth consecutive year the school has increased tuition by the maximum rate allowed.
Under the province’s tuition fee policy schools are allowed in increase tuition rates by an average of 5% for undergraduate students and 8% for graduate students in their first year.
In a recent press release Michael Snoddon, president of Lakehead University’s student union, said the proposed fee increase would amount to approximately $1.2 million dollars in revenue.
The release outlines an increase by 10.29% for international students in engineering, administration and commerce programs and a 6.62% increase in all other programs.
No word on the proposed increase from the university.
