Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop has introduced a private members bill at the Legislature today, Wednesday March 2, to make it safer for tow truck operators to do their jobs by the side of busy highways.
Dunlop has worked with the CAA in drafting an amemdment to the Highway Traffic Act that would see tow truck operators and others offering road side assistance protected under the Slow Down Move over Legislation.
The act currently only protects police officers and other emergency workers while out of their vehicles by the side of the road.
Dunlop says under these changes, drivers who do not slow down or move over away from a tow truck operator or any one else offering roadside assistance would face similar fines if they didnt slow down for a police officer.
