An electronic records system is on the wish list for the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
Elizabeth Riley President and CEO says the new system is something they hope to achieve in the next 3 to 5 years.
Riley says the electronic records are necessary to provide the best possible care to patients, and will allow services like an on line tracking list of medications and access to test results without having to wait for a call from you doctors office.
Almost 5,500 doctors now manage patients health information electronically, giving access to more than 5 million Ontarians.
Before the system can be implemented a strategic plan needs to be completed. Riley says the local LHIN is supportive in getting everyone in line across the region.
Investing in electronic medical records is part of the provinces Open Ontario Plan to provide more access to health care services while improving quality and accountability for patients
