Orillia looking at new ways to try and reduce the amount of garbage going to its land fill.
Greg Preston is the superintendent of Waste Management for the city and says there are a lot of different options and new technology out there they will be looking at in the future.
He says there is energy from waste systems, to traditional methods like landfills or incineration.
Preston says however there is growing resistance to landfills or incinerators, so their task is to try and convince people to reduce the amount of waste the produce in the first place.
Preston says in Canada we throw away more waste than anywhere else in the world.
He says while residents in Orillia are doing a good job at waste diversion, the business community is just starting to come around.
Preston says more and more businesses are getting on board with the green bin program and recycling because it the long term it helps reduce the amount of money they have to pay to have their garbage hauled away.
