A local MPP and Conservative Candidate in the upcoming fall election calling on the Provincial Government to impose a moratorium on the closure of any Simcoe County schools ,including Barrie and Orillia, until after the Provincial Election October 6.
The joint call comes from Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop and Barrie PC Candidate Rod Jackson.
Dunlop says that is the message they are hearing from their constituants that the closure of small and rural schools is completely unacceptable.
He says the ongoing threat of closures is upsetting a lot of people.
Dunlops call is supported by Barrie PC Candidate Rod Jackson who says a moratorium should be in place so the issue of school closures can be re-examined after public debate during a provincial election.
Dunlop says as the government brags about Building Strong Communities, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance are decimating small communities and business areas with the constant threat of school closures.
