A big economic development conference took place at Lakehead University here in Orillia on Friday.
The conference examined the universities role in community economic development.
University President Dr. Brian Stevenson says the most important thing for the University to do is listen to what the people in the community are saying about economic develpment.
He says the knowledge of the Universities facility and students are most effective when they are connected with the aspirations of the community.
Stevenson says the University can play a major role in helping local economic development in orillia and Simcoe county.
Stevenson they also are looking at partnerships in the community to further strengthen the local economies and create opportunities so young people don’t have to move out of the region to find employment.
He says having the campus in Orillia is a great asset for young people in this region.
