The clock is ticking down to when you can nominate a local hero for the Order of Orillia Award is quickly approaching.
Four pm February 17 th is the deadline to hand in nominations.
The award was created to honour those who have made long term commitment’s to the city through their volunteer work.
Jack Reid is the Chair of the Awards committee and a post winner of the Order back in 2007 for his work in the community.
He says receiving the award was an over whemling experience and it was something he never really expected.
Reid says they are looking for people who have been volunteering in the community for at least 10 years, although if its a youth being nominated that condition will not apply.
He says one of the conditions of being nominated for the award is the person must agree to the honour.
Reid says many times, volunteers dont want the recongntion and just want to remain in the back ground to continue to do their good deeds.
He says up to five people or groups are eligible to pick up the Order of Orillia.
Reid says once the nominations are in the Committee will take several weeks decide on their recommendations, then they will sent that information off to City Council.
He says by mid March, the winners of the Order of Orillia should be announced.
Applications forms can be picked up at Orillia City Hall or on the City website at www.orillia.ca
