The count down to Orillia’s winter carnival continues with only 8 more days until the start of the big event.
The carnival runs from Feb. 11 to 13 in Couchiching Beach Park.
Carnival Vice President Kelly Smith says with extended food and midway hours and a Saturday night firework display, they are hoping to attract more visitors.
She says theĀ carnival is family-focusedĀ and is an inexpensive way to have a lot of fun during the cold winter months.
Smith says the highlight of this years carnival is the polar bear dip which goes on Sunday afternoon starting at 2.
She says a lot of people who take the plunge into the cold waters of Lake Couchiching are repeat dippers.
Smith says the Martiniz family will be taking part in the dip for a fourth time, with an 8 year old taking part along with their grandmother who is 70 years old.
This year’s funds will be donated to the Couchiching Jubilee House and will also go toward a shared asset for Orillia’s Common Roof project.
Smith says a shared asset could be a photocopier or boardroom furniture.
