The worst snowstorm of this winter has arrived and with it poor driving conditions and blowing and drifting snow.
Orillia could see up to 20 centimetres of snow before the storm heads through Quebec and into Atlantic Canada.
Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips says today’s storm will be the worst Ontario has seen in three years.
He says gusting winds and blowing snow will obscure visibility and make travel dangerous.
There are no major highway closures to report in the Orillia area, but police say blowing snow will reduce visibility and create dangerous driving conditions.
Meanwhile the storm has resulted in every school bus run for the Simcoe County District School Board have been cancelled this morning.
All school buses and school vans are not running because of the storm, but the schools are open if students can get there safely.
All SCDSB staff professional development sessions, training and workshops scheduled to start prior to 11 a.m. have been cancelled today.
The Orillia campus of Lakehead University has cancelled all daytime classes because of the extreme weather.
The campus does remain open. Details on evening classes will be available by 3 this afternoon.
The Orillia, Barrie and Muskoka campus of Georgian College are closed today because of the bad weather.
