Its good news for anyone wanting to visit a patient at Orillia’s soldiers memorial Hospital.
A flu outbreak on a medical unit at Orilla Soldiers Memorial Hospital was declared over today by the hospital and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
Terry Dyni is the Director, Community Relations says they have gone 8 days without any new, hospital-acquired cases of Influenza A on the affected unit, Soldiers 2, which clears the way to lift the outbreak status.
During the outbreak, the unit was closed to new patient admissions or transfers and access to the unit was restricted to those who had received this years flu shot or were on anti-viral medication.
Dyni says while visiting restrictions have been lifted, the hospital reminds everyone that washing their hands before and after visiting patient care areas is strongly advised, as the flu virus is still prevalent in the community.
Visiting hours are 3-8 pm with a limit of 2 visitors per patient.
Duni says the Hospital also wants to thank the community for their support during this outbreak.
