If you are hoping for some shelter while you are waiting for a bus in Orillia it looks like you are going to have to keep waiting.
A request was made by the Orillia District Literacy Council for the City to install bus shelters at every of the 181 bus stops within the city.
The estimated cost for the City to build a bus shelter is approximately eight to ten thouseand dollars each.
Orillia City Councillor Pauls Spears say some stops would not be safe if a shelter were installed because they would inhibit sightlines for drivers.
He also says many of the stops lack proper space for the shelters.
While he does see a need for some shelters at busier stops Spears adds that its simply unreasonable to expect a stop at every shelter.
The Orillia Public Works department says that their budget has allocated funds to build six to seven shelters this upcoming year, but to equip every stop would not be feasible.
