Snowmobile trails in and around Orillia could be open as soon as this weekend.
President of the Orillia Snowmobile Club, John Britton says they have groomers out on the trails trying to get them in shape for sledding.
However he says the trails are not ready just yet and he is pleading with sledders to be patient and wait until the trails are officially opened.
Britton says some of the trails on the east side of their area have not received that much snow, but other trails near Mt. St. Louis and Horseshoe Valley have a lot of snow.
He says until the trails are open, its still dangerous for people to use them.
As for the local lakes, Britton says just because someone has moved an ice fishing hut onto the lake does not mean the ice is safe to be on.
He says until the snowmobile club has staked and marked out the trails on the lake and checked the thickness of the ice, snowmobilers should keep off the ice.
Britton says not only are they putting their own lives in jeopardy, but also the lives of Police and Fire officials who would be involved in rescuing them.
