Hospitals around Ontario disclosed the salaries of their chief executive officers to the public yesterday.
New provincial legislation that came into effect Jan. 1 states Ontario’s hospital’s will be covered by Freedom of Information legislation. That means a wide range of hospital records, including executive contracts, are now available to the public.
The Chair of Orillia’s Hospital Board John Cameron says they put this information up quickly to show the public they really don’t have anything they want to conceal.
With a yearly salary of $270,000, Elisabeth Riley, president and CEO of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, tops the list of executives at the local hospital, with Don Atkinson, chief of staff and vice-president of medical affairs, next on the list, bringing in about $231,000.
Cameron says this is not new information as the salaries have been released on the Sunshine List each spring by the Provincial Government.
He says they don’t have anything to hide. The Hospital has an outstanding senior team.
