If quitting smoking is your New Year’s resolution for 2012, here’s some added motivation.
The Driven to Quit Challenge is back for 2012.
Participants across Ontario pledge to quit smoking for the entire month of March to qualify for a brand new vehicle.
The Supervisor of the Tobacco Program at the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit — John Niddery — says he doesn’t know which manufacturer will be supplying the top prize.
But he says the details will be released on the website — www.driventoquit.ca — this Tuesday.
He says there will also be cash prizes for the individual that quits as well as a friend or family member who helped the person kick the habit.
Niddery says Simcoe and Muskoka had the second-most participants in last year’s challenge with 2,110.
He says that was 500 less than Toronto who had the most participants in the challenge.
Niddery says most people who try to quit smoking are not successful the first time.
He says it is often a series of attempts before people finally stop smoking for good.
