Front Street Makeover

Orillia | by Ian MacLennan
Two lanes with centre lane between Laclie & King, 4 lanes King to Queen

Front Street in Orillia is going to get a bit of a makeover.

Staff proposed to Council Committee on Monday (4th) to have a section between Laclie and Colborne be turned to a two-lane road with a centre left-turn lane, and a section between Colborne and Queen to be a four-lane road.

Committee though decided to go with two lanes with a centre left lane between Laclie and King and four lanes from King to Queen.

Councillor Ralph Cipolla says staff have done their homework and there have been public meetings where the staff recommendation was favoured.

He says he is surprised that the committee would go against the staff recommendation.

Cipolla says there are 16 thousand vehicles travelling along that stretch of road each day.

He says it is a mess, and often traffic is backed up to Atherley Road, adding it takes him more than five minutes to get from Mississaga to Atherley.

Cipolla says it should be four lanes along Front Street.

He says to have a section between Laclie and King reduced to three lanes doesn't make sense.

The recommendation is subject to Council ratification next Monday (11th).
